Introduction

Motolite Batteries are proudly manufactured by Philippine Batteries Incorporated (PBI), the largest manufacturer, exporter and distributor of automotive, motorcycle, and industrial battery products and solutions in the Philippines.

PBI’s TS16949 and ISO-certified manufacturing plant is one of the largest and most modern battery manufacturing facilities in Southeast Asia. Housed in an 18-hectare fully integrated facility that produces world-class maintenance-free automotive and motorcycle batteries as well as dry-charged low maintenance batteries, industrial batteries, plates, sulfuric acid and separators, PBI employs a fully-integrated closed-loop manufacturing and distribution process that covers material sourcing, component design and production, assembly, charging, distribution and recycling.

The company has been leading the lead-acid battery industry since its foundation in 1919, and has been providing consumers with world-class power solutions for over 80 years, making it one of the region’s pioneers and longest-serving battery manufacturers. PBI is also the biggest investor in manufacturing facilities in the entire ASEAN region, giving Motolite a formidable edge over its competitors. History

  • 1919 The founding of Caro Electrical Service marks the birth of the automotive lead-acid storage battery industry in the Philippines.
  • 1929 Caro Electrical Service becomes Ramcar, Inc. and introduces Oriental Battery, the first local battery brand specially designed for use in the tropics.
  • 1949 C.C. Unson is established and its flagship brand, Motolite, is introduced to the market. The company later enters into a technical licensing agreement with Chloride Batteries of the United Kingdom.
  • 1979 Ramcar, Inc. enters into a technical licensing agreement with Gould, Inc. of the US. Ramcar, Inc. introduces the first plastic battery, thus making the latest American battery technology available to the Philippine market.
  • 1984 Ramcar, Inc. became the principal supplier of automotive batteries to Supercharge Batteries Pty. Ltd., one of the leading battery distributors in Australia.
  • 1990 The Oriental-Yuasa Battery Corporation, a partnership between Ramcar, Inc. and Yuasa Battery of Japan, was established to provide better service to Japanese car assemblers.
  • 1990 Ramcar, Inc. acquires the assets of Estee Batteries, the biggest independent automotive battery manufacturer in the US West Coast. The facility has been operating as Ramcar Batteries, Inc., the manufacturing and distribution arm of the company in the U.S.
  • 1997 Aiming for global competitiveness, industry leaders Ramcar, Inc. and C.C. Unson Co., Inc. merge operations and become Oriental and Motolite Corporation (OMC).
  • 1999 Philippine Batteries Incorporated starts operation.

Our ISO-certified manufacturing plant in Sta. Maria, Bulacan is the largest and most modern battery manufacturing facility in Southeast Asia. It is an 18-hectare fully integrated facility that produces maintenance-free batteries, utilizing the latest expanded grid technology as well as dry-charged low maintenance batteries, motorcycle batteries and plates, industrial and specialised batteries, sulfuric acid and separators. The plant also produces export-quality batteries for the US, European, Middle Eastern, Australian and Asian markets.

Export Growth

The dominance of Philippine Batteries Incorporated thru its marketing arm, Oriental and Marketing Motolite Corporation (OMMC) in the Philippine domestic market has allowed the company to expand their facilities and focus their sights on the international market. Today, the company produces more batteries for export than for the local market. Motolite batteries are distributed and sold in the US, European, Middle Eastern, Australian and Asian markets.
