Motolite, the leading brand in automotive batteries, has recently signed up to be the presenter of the 2009 PBA Fiesta Cup. Dubbed as the PBA Motolite Pangmatagalan Fiesta Cup, this season’s second conference will run from February until July 2009.
For this conference, each team is allowed one import who will have to meet the 6’6” height restriction set by the PBA. Ten teams are competing in the PBA Motolite Pangmatagalan Fiesta Cup, namely: the Alaska Aces; Barangay Ginebra Kings; Barako Bull Energy Boosters; Purefoods TJ Giants; Rain or Shine Elasto Painters; San Miguel Beermen; Burger King Titans; Coca- Cola Tigers; Sta. Lucia Realtors; Talk ‘N and the Text Tropang Texters.
Ernest Estrera, Motolite vice-president for marketing, expressed his excitement about supporting the conference, noting: “We have always believed in the three B’s of Philippine sports — boxing, billiards, and basketball. We hope that Motolite’s participation will help promote the PBA at the grassroots level to enhance the popularity of this already well-known Filipino basketball franchise. Plans have been made to bring more games outside of Metro Manila, for the enjoyment of PBA fans all over the country.”
During the contract-signing held at the PBA office last February 25, 2009, PBA Commissioner Sonny Barrios remarked, “Both the PBA and Motolite are known to be the market leaders in their own respective fields, and we are proud of the partnership in the PBA Motolite Pangmatagalan Fiesta Cup.”
The opening games were held last Saturday, February 28, at the Lamberto Macias Sports Complex in Dumaguete City, marking the series of road games lined up for the PBA Motolite Pangmatagalan Fiesta Cup. The Burger King Titans emerged the winner over Sta. Lucia Realtors, 96-87.
